Something About Company

Our story first began in 1945, when we sent CARE Packages to Europeans after the devastation of the Second World War.

Over the years, our work has grown to address a changing world. We help women and girls in over 90 developing countries lift themselves and their families out of poverty and out of crisis. We develop solutions with women and girls and their communities to tackle the big issues facing them like climate change, economic empowerment, food security and emergency relief in times of crisis or disaster. And we wouldn’t be able to do it without YOU.

If half of the world’s population continues to have fewer rights and opportunities (think something as simple as having a bank account or starting a business) than the other half, inequality will continue to fuel poverty.

Women’s economic empowerment describes how we help women unleash their potential to earn and save.  CARE works with women to help them access the resources, tools, skills and power to change their own lives.

From natural disasters to climate-related shocks to conflict and displacement, most of these crises have the greatest impact on women and girls. They are often the last to eat in times of drought, often lack the physical strength to escape natural disasters and face sexual violence during conflicts. These hardships perpetuate poverty and inequality.
