Communications Specialist (Part-Time)

Hours: 8 hours/week

Location: Chevy Chase, MD or remote

Salary: Commensurate with required experience and qualifications

Division & Project Overview:

URC’s corporate Communications Department: oversees internal and external communications to partners, donors, employees, and the public via print and digital outlets.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Communications team to develop and implement organization-wide communications strategy
  • Work with staff to identify, develop, and share stories in various formats that highlight impact and help multiple audiences understand our work
  • Actively contribute to generating, developing, and communicating ideas, working with the communications team to identify and apply new methods, tools, and platforms such as animated infographics, interactive maps, or other data visualization tools for promoting achievements and communicating key messages
  • Monitor company-wide project activities to identify and capture achievements
  • Develop and update company promotional materials (one-pagers, briefs, brochures, infographics, etc.)
  • Write content and success stories for digital and print materials
  • Create content for company e-newsletter and manage its production and dissemination
  • Promote and disseminate materials/messages through multiple communications channels, including website, USAID outlets, technical webinars, events, social media, and print
  • Liaise with in-house graphic design staff on production of materials
  • Build editorial calendar and manage daily content and scheduling for social channels including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Build and launch standards of practice for stronger intake and organization of social media
  • Examine option to post paid/promoted content on Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Use social media analytics tools to enhance reach; develop periodic reports on activity
  • Support organizational events (planning, coordination, promotion, and marketing)
  • Assist field and headquarter staff with communications and branding requests
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (master’s) in Communications, Journalism, Global Health, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience developing multiple types of communications content, e.g., USAID/ PEPFAR/PMI or other donor reports, impact stories, PowerPoint presentations, blogs, infographics, press releases, op-eds, video diaries
  • Experience in communications as part of a donor-funded health or international development organization
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and ability to write for a variety of audiences
  • Organized, proven ability to meet deadlines, multi-task efficiently, and pay close attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating events (seminars and conferences)
  • Social media experience; experience with management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite)
  • Demonstrated experience using email communication platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
  • Experience with website analytics (Google Analytics)
  • Ability to work and deliver high quality products in a fast-paced job environment
  • Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • MA/MBA/MPH (5+) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
