Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. We are looking for an In-house Lawyer and Data Protection Officer to work closely with the General Counsel and Secretary and Registrar. As DPO you will provide an internal audit approach to assessing compliance with relevant information law, and to devise, agree, and ensure delivery of programmes of work to keep LSHTM in line with good practice in the HEI sector. You will also work as an in house Lawyer to support the Legal Services Office by providing high quality and timely advice to colleagues on contractual and commercial issues.The successful applicant should be qualified to practice the law of England and Wales (e.g Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Executive or QLTS).  You will have sufficient information law and cyber security experience to lead on GDPR compliance for LSHTM and proven expertise in drafting or advising on data procedures including privacy impact assessments, and data breach management / reporting. Excellent and effective communication skills, including explaining complex issues to senior colleagues and stakeholders is essential. The post is full time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional salary scale Grade 7 in the range £45,878 to £52,520 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
