About AIP-PRISMA – Australia-Indonesia Partnership
for Promoting Rural Incomes through Support for Markets in Agriculture (PRISMA)
is a multi-year development program working to accelerate
poverty reduction through inclusive economic growth. PRISMA adopts a market
systems development approach by partnering with key stakeholders to improve
agriculture market efficiency and sustainably benefit the poor. The program
aims to achieve an income increase for a total of 1,000,000 smallholder farming
households by 2023. It operates in six provinces of Central Java, East Java,
West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), West Papua, and Papua.

Project Overview and Role:

In Indonesia, 95% cattle farmers in dairy sector are smallholder. They have limited access of good quality feed that contribute to nearly 60 percent of the cattle farming costs. To increase milk production and quality, dairy cattle rely heavily on sufficient feed. Therefore, A good quality feed with affordable price is an essential element for dairy industry in Indonesia. In Central Java, average milk production is the lowest (9.4 litre per cow per day ) compared to other provinces and also the national average (13 litre per cow per day) due to low quality and quantity of feed consumed.


Market systems development works on changing the behaviour of market actors, especially farmers, through introducing new products and services. In the animal husbandry sector such as dairy cattle, beef cattle and pig PRISMA works through inputs product in bringing sustainable change to the market, one of them is promoting concentrate and supplement feed to improve farmer’s productivity and thus experience increased income.

Agroveta Husada Dharma (for short called Agroveta) is a nutrition and pharmaceutical company in Indonesia producing feed supplements and animal health products. Agroveta produces and sell premix called Lagantor Milku, a feed supplement with the main benefit to cover micronutrient need and increase milk production. The current sales monthly is still small about 0.75 ton in Central Java, with the running business model heavily depends on freelancers for marketing strategy and activities.

Agroveta agrees to be partnership with PRISMA to provide good quality feed supplement, to conduct new strategy of marketing and to provide continues information and knowledge for dairy farmers so that they will improve the practice of dairy rearing which will lead to increase milk productivity and finally benefits farmers having increase income. However, Agroveta has insufficient information related to local market actors in Central Java, particularly in Boyolali and Klaten districts and potential dairy farmers that will have high commitment to execute demofarms. So to gather this information, Agroveta needs a temporary worker. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Field Researcher will
provide information on local market actors particularly cooperatives,
individual milk collectors and agri-input shop. The Field Researcher also build
commitment with farmer leaders to execute demofarms in Klaten and Boyolali
districts for Agroveta. Field Researcher is also expected to:

  • Deliver areas of work as outlined below: Identify and map the potential distributors (cooperatives, individual milk collectors, agri-input shops) in Boyolali and Klaten
  • Identify potential farmers to execute demo farms to support potential distributors
  • Regularly collecting data and information on demo farm progress

Required Qualifications:

The Field
Researcher is required to have:

  • Local network in dairy sectors in Klaten and Boyolali
  • Experiences in field facilitation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skill
  • Technical background in animal husbandry or other relevant major
  • Driving licence C and own motorbike
