We wish to appoint to a Research Fellow in Epidemiology in the Department of Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The appointee will join an exciting programme of work funded jointly by the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK and being carried out by LSHTM and University College London (UCL – co-PI Professor Nish Chaturvedi).
The appointee will apply statistical methods to understand associations between hyperglycaemia and chronic disease, specifically cardiometabolic, cognitive and cancer outcomes, using data from UK Biobank (www.ukbiobank.ac.uk). This is a national cohort of half a million adults recruited between 2006-10, aged 40-69 years. UK Biobank participants are fully genotyped, with linkage to primary and secondary care records. One major part of the work will be the analysis of linked electronic health records.
The post is based at LSHTM, but the work will involve close collaboration with team members at UCL, including researchers focussed on genetic aspects of the programme, designed to complement this advertised post. Candidates must have an MSc in Medical Statistics, Epidemiology or equivalent at Masters level and a relevant post-graduate degree at PhD level (or within 3 months of expected submission). Experience of analysing large scale health datasets, including those derived from electronic health records, is essential.Further particulars are included in the job description.
This is a full-time post, based in London in the Department of Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and is available for two years from the start date. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 Research Fellow, £39,304-44,634 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
