Project Overview and Role:

Palladium is seeking a GESI Specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) project in Egypt, which is expected to begin in 2022. The USAID/Egypt Osra (Family) Activity will support and contribute to the Government of Egypt’s (GOE) National Population Strategy (NPS) 2015–2030 and the three-year National Program to Plan Population Growth (2021-2023). The potential program will strengthen high impact practices in family planning and incorporate innovative, promising approaches to improve family health outcomes.  Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the design and implementation of the project’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) strategy and activities.
  • Provide cross-cutting leadership across all six objective areas in identifying GESI issues within programs and developing strategies for strengthening the integration of GESI across all activities
  • Build staff capacity on the application of a GESI lens across the program cycle.
  • Participate in and contribute to external technical working groups on issues related to gender equality, gender empowerment, social inclusion, and inclusive development.
  • Develop innovative approaches to advancing gender equality, promote inclusive development, increase women’s participation in decision making, and prevent and address gender-based violence and violence against women.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs with GESI-focused outcomes.
  •  Provide support to the M&E lead to track and report against gender and social inclusion indicators and disaggregate data by gender and socio-economic characteristics to analyze results.
  • Review and provide technical feedback on results and project reports to donors in order to ensure quality and full compliance with gender equality and social inclusion policies and progress towards achieving integration of all people in program.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in public health, sociology, gender dynamics/studies, international development, or a similar field is preferred
  • Relevant work experience in gender equality and social inclusion, preferably in a USAID context.
  • Extensive, progressively increasing responsibility in GESI, with significant experience in a senior gender-related leadership position, including in gender-focused analysis, integration of gender in family planning activities, differential gender impacts of laws, policies and regulations, or similar framework.
  • Experience working in Egypt and/or the broader MENA region.
  • Preferred understanding of the Egyptian FP/RH space.
  • Experience working on USAID-funded projects and knowledge of U.S. government regulations.
  • Experience interacting with in-country agencies, including central and local government, development partners, civil society, and community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic (MSA and Egyptian dialect).
  •  Ability to develop and deliver technical presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret research findings and apply them to the Egyptian context when required.
  • Prior experience integrating gender components throughout strategic plans, workplans, and/or activity plans for FP topics.
