This is a full-time position based out of our New York City office location, where a hybrid office schedule is in place. We offer highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $73,000 to $85,000, and the candidate much have eligibility to work in the U.S. at time of hire.

Job Purpose:
Vital Strategies is looking for a Communication Manager to join our Partnership for Healthy Cities and Policy Advocacy and Communication teams. This role will be responsible for executing a wide range of marketing, communication and public relations activities to advance healthier and safer cities around the world.
With most of the global population now living in urban settings, cities and their leaders play a critical role in developing, implementing and enforcing policies to create healthy environments for healthier populations. The Partnership for Healthy Cities (PHC), supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Vital Strategies, is a global network of 70 cities whose mayors have committed to prevent NCDs including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung disease and injuries through proven interventions. The third phase of the Partnership launched in 2021.

You have a track record of taking initiative and driving results across multiple marketing and communications campaigns, channels, and projects. You are a superb writer, and have experience crafting compelling copy and content across blogs, brochures, and newsletters. Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner closely with our Partnership for Healthy Cities and Policy Advocacy and Communication teams to deliver publicity and media strategies to advance the Partnership for Healthy Cities initiative.
Write compelling content for program brochures, media kits, blogs, briefings, bios, newsletter content, social media content, speaking proposals, presentations, videos, and landing pages.
Seek opportunities to raise the visibility of the Partnership for Healthy Cities and its goals, activities and impact; execute publicity and campaign strategies that result in high-quality media coverage.
Help build and nurture relationships with city and country communication officers, project teams, Partnership for Healthy Cities partner organizations and other key stakeholders to stay informed on initiative activities, proactively identify milestones, support press and communication strategies, and track/follow-up on media impact.
Research media outlets, conferences, blogs, podcasts and marketing opportunities; assist with pitching and outreach; support interviews, workshops, events, press briefings, and other press and media engagements to advance the initiatives’ mission with regional, national, and international media.
Build relationships with journalists, podcast producers and external partners and maintain a media database.
Secure media placements in target media outlets and respond to media inquiries. Support city and country offices in securing media opportunities; develop and execute plans for communicating key milestones.
Track communication activities; prepare and submit PR reports.
Monitor news and follow trends in relevant areas including global health, urban health, health policy and development; proactively pitch ideas for stories and articles, including interviews and statements from key spokespeople; staff interviews and speaking appearances related to our work.
Work with Vital Strategies’ Senior Communication Manager, Partnership for Healthy Cities, to plan events, pitch speakers and panels for relevant conferences; manage award and speaker submissions, and other thought leadership opportunities for the initiative.
Coordinate scheduling, logistics and project management tools, as required.
Maintain the Partnership for Healthy Cities website and media toolkit sites, as well as other digital properties as required.
Qualifications:
Skills and Abilities –
Outstanding writing skills with sample blogs, OpEds, and/or short essays
Excellent communicator, both written and oral
Exceptional computer skills with experience in all Microsoft Office programs
Experience with media intelligence platforms (e.g. Meltwater); email marketing services (e.g. Mailchimp); social media channels; and content management systems
Background in health or nonproft is a plus
Self-motivated, meticulously organized, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and with others
Experience:
Required –
Minimum 6-7 years of professional experience, in communications, PR and/or marketing
Preferred –
Agency experience preferred; international development, government and/or nonprofit experience, a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Some international travel required
