Organization: EngenderHealth

Requisition Name: Intern, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
Requisition No: VN215
Salary Range: $20 hour
Employment Type: Country Location: Job Details: BACKGROUND
EngenderHealth envisions a gender-equal world where all people achieve their sexual and reproductive health and rights. We believe this is essential for ensuring all people can achieve their full potentials. To achieve this vision, we implement high-quality, gender-equitable programs that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Comprehensive, quality abortion care is essential to helping people achieve their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Roughly 121 million unintended pregnancies occurred each year and of these 61% end in abortion. Abortion is a common health intervention and safe when carried out using recommended methods. However 45% of all abortions are unsafe, 97% of which take place in developing countries. Unsafe abortion is unfortunately a leading – but preventable cause of maternal deaths and morbidity. Lack of access to safe, timely, affordable, and respectful abortion care is a critical public health and human rights issue. Comprehensive abortion care includes the provision of information, abortion management (including induced abortion and care related to pregnancy loss), and post-abortion care. In March 2022 the World Health Organization launched its new abortion care guideline. This is an exciting new guideline that advances new recommendations and presents renewed opportunities to advance safe abortion globally.
