The Kingdom of Eswatini has a high prevalence of both diabetes and hypertension, with the majority of those affected being undiagnosed similar to many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Until recently, the Ministry of Health (MoH) only provided care for diabetes and hypertension through physician-led teams in hospitals. The country is currently conducting a feasibility pilot of the World Health Organisation's Package of Essential non-communicable diseases (NCD) Interventions for Primary Health Care in low-resource settings (WHO-PEN). This involves the decentralisation of care for diabetes and hypertension from hospitals to clinics nationwide in a phased approach. As part of decentralisation, the MoH with financial support from the European Commission's Horizon2020 programme will assess the impact of the WHO-PEN interventions at population level through a population-based household survey carried out in each healthcare facility catchment area at the end of study phase 1 (November 2022). CHAI is therefore seeking a Volunteer to support with the planning and implementation of the household survey. The Volunteer will work with the NCD Research Coordinator to support the planning, administration, and implementation of the study. The Volunteer must be able to multi-task and have strong coordination skills, they must be an entrepreneurial individual with outstanding problem-solving, analytical and communication skills. They must be able to function independently, have project management skills and be able to work as part of a team with CHAI. This position is based in Mbabane, Kingdom of Eswatini and reports to the CHAI Health Interventions Manager. This is a 5 month position with an expected start date in May 2022. Responsibilities The Volunteer's primary responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to): Support coding of Household Survey questionnaire and other tools into tablets for use by data collectors Assist in the development of materials and tools necessary to appropriately train team members involved in the study implementations around issues related to (but not limited to) protocol requirements, standard operating procedures, schedule of visits, execution of the survey workplan. Support the training of data collectors Support coordination for the study pilots and full-scale execution of the population-based household survey research activities (including the coordination of logistics for data collectors in the field during the survey) Identifying and reporting issues that may affect the accuracy and quality of study data and study implementation Support the development of consent forms, source documentation and implementation report Other responsibilities as requested by supervisor Qualifications Bachelor's degree in clinical, public health, statistics, social sciences, business, or related qualification At least 6 months professional experience in any sector Good diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and able to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment Robust problem-solving skills, quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively while addressing a broad-ranged audience High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
