Function of the Team: Aligned with DAI’s broader mission and vision, the Global Health (GH) technical unit promotes better health systems that foster quality and access, reduce threats, and promote healthier behaviors to improve lives globally. We believe lasting differences in health will come from working in partnership with stakeholders to apply contextually appropriate, multi-sectoral approaches to improve health outcomes. Our global health team and regional partners lead with technical expertise and local knowledge to deliver data-driven and tech-enabled solutions that respond to issues across the spectrum of care – from preparing for and responding to emerging pandemic threats, to addressing critical health systems challenges such as workforce shortages.
We partner with the private sector and have invested in a range of next-generation health technology innovators that lie along the health value chain. We work across a range of health areas including reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health; nutrition; clean water; malaria; neglected tropical diseases; and other communicable and noncommunicable diseases. In doing so we leverage DAI’s other core sectoral strengths in agriculture, food security, environment, governance, and private sector development to foster resilience, expand economic opportunity, and improve health outcomes through multi-sectoral, multidisciplinary programs.
Function of the Position: We are looking to hire one to two mid-level professionals with experience in one or more of the following technical areas which comprise DAI GH’s practice areas: Health Security, Health Governance, Health Equity, and Market Solutions for Health. In addition to some of the technical areas mentioned above, specific expertise may include One Health, antimicrobial resistance, epidemiology, lab strengthening, social and behavior change communication, family planning, health financing, de-risking investment/market incentives for the private sector, expanding and improving quality of health services.
The Practice Specialist provides technical input in the assigned practice area to DAI Global Heath’s business development and project management/delivery efforts. They are expected to contribute to thought leadership and knowledge management in their practice area; and support a network of clients, experts, partners relevant to assigned practice area on behalf of DAI. The Practice Specialist provides technical and new business contributions to relevant cross-sectoral efforts across DAI.
Beyond the assigned focus area, they also serve as a cross-cutting resource within Global Heath technical team, collaborating with specialists across the organization to contribute to successful implementation of Global Health projects and bids.
The Practice Specialist may spend up to 20% of their time traveling internationally to support business development efforts and projects around the world.
Roles and Responsibilities: Practice Area Support
On behalf of DAI, contributes to to building close relationships with potential partners and candidates.
Contributes to publications, presentations, event participation, etc. to enhance DAI GH’s reputation and brand with our key clients.
Stays abreast with client and international development trends in assigned area.
Works closely with functional teams providing proposal and project coordination support.
Contributes to the overall success of the technical unit and organization.
Business Development Support
Contributes to the thought leadership agenda for assigned area that aligns to GH’s business development priorities, capture strategies for upcoming bids, and longer-term market positioning.
Supports efforts to win new projects/work serving as a proposal coordinator, co-manager and/or contributing writer.
Contributes to research and positioning for the development and implementation of DAI Global Health’s new business pipeline.
Participates in new business pre-positioning; including reconnaissance trips, research, and trend analysis.
Supports identification and recruitment of experts and partners for bids and projects.
Project Support
Ensures that DAI captures technical achievements and lessons learned related to assigned area; encourages cross-project learning.
Undertakes short-term technical assignments (STTA) in assigned area, and in other areas as needed.
Develops a good working relationship with clients and partners.
Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Grade 7: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience related to Health Security, Health Governance, Health Equity and/or Market Solutions for Health, and a college degree; or 2 years of relevant professional experience and a master’s degree
Demonstrated experience working on the development of proposals for international development activities, particularly those related to global health challenges.
Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize assignments and manage multiple deadlines.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex or technical information clearly, and tailor communication style to diverse audiences.
Able to build and maintain good working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and external clients from diverse backgrounds.
Able and willing to travel to any country where DAI currently operates or may wish to operate barring times when DAI Global Security has deemed travel unsafe.
Authorized to work in the United States or the United Kingdom. Applicants must specify their preferred work country in their application.
Willing and able to adjust work schedule, if needed, to support teams located in different time zones/countries.
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
New business coordination experience on projects funded by USAID, FCDO and/or EU donor agencies.
Prior experience supporting projects funded by USAID, FCDO, and/or EU donor agencies.
Professional working proficiency in a second language (Spanish, French and/or Arabic preferred).
Supervisory Requirements : TBD, may directly supervise staff when providing support to projects.
