This Opportunity:
The Global Impact Assets (GIA) Impact Implementation Engagement is a $17 million 4-year program, designed to ensure that infrastructure investments in emerging markets invest in social, economic and environmental impact. The GIA Impact Engagement positions Palladium as the consulting firm of choice for the design and execution of impact plans for the impact-first infrastructure investments that GIA makes. While each project’s impact program design and implementation differs depending on the GIA client’s exact context, all projects seek to make a positive impact across similar dimensions—Economic Growth, Social Development (Health, Education, Skills) and Environmental Preservation (Reforestation, Waste Management, Ecotourism). The aim of the engagement is to provide viable Impact Program Designs and Program Implementation Services to GIA investment clients that help them to more easily secure capital, by committing to leave a positive legacy in their operating environment. The Palladium team has worked with various GIA clients to study local contexts, design impact programs and build economic models for sustainable program intervention over several years. Our aim is for the GIA projects to help set a new standard for capital markets where impact is a must to secure long-term project investment.
Global Impact Assets (GIA) is an international, impact-first infrastructure finance firm that supports infrastructure projects to raise capital to launch and finance operations. Palladium is supporting BSM on an approx. $7 million Impact Program Design and Implementation Project that seeks to improve the livelihoods of communities in Coclé and Colon, Panama over 3 years. In Panama, BSM will operate a gold mine. The project focuses on four strategic pillars—Education & Skills Development, Local Suppliers’ Network Development, Utility Partnerships and Flagship Crop. By working across these pillars, the project seeks to leverage mine resources to create shared benefit for the community. Over several years of operation, the mine will co-invest in education interventions that create a skilled pipeline of workers for the mine whose skills can also transfer to adjacent industries; connect local suppliers to the mine to grow profits; share utility resources (electricity, Wi-Fi, water) to facilitate mine operations and lift up surrounding communities; and support farmers to apply regenerative agricultural techniques and access high value markets to increase incomes
Cerrado Gold is a Canadian precious metals mining company seeking to build a portfolio of assets in South America. The company owns a gold and silver mine in Argentina and another gold mine in Brazil. Palladium is helping Cerrado Gold to design an Impact Program for the Brazilian mine, which is based at Monte do Carmo. The region is in the state of Tocantins and has economic and social development indices below the state and national averages. The program will have a $4.5M investment and initially last for 4 years. It will aim to improve not only the socioeconomic aspects of the community, but also the environmental outcomes in the community. Palladium designed 4 main programs to address the region’s issues: (i) Productive and Environmental Adequacy of Rural Properties, (ii) Seeds and Seedlings Hub for Native Species, (iii) Waste Management, (iv) Professional and Institutional Training. All initiatives were structured to follow a progressive geographical scope (starting in the urban area of Monte do Carmo and expanding to its rural area and nearby cities). Overall, the Impact Program aims to enhance the livelihoods of the local community, improve/restore the natural landscape, and qualify the local population to work in the mine’s operation
