MSH’s Communications Team’s shared goal is to support MSH staff with their various communications needs. The team is comprised of the Content, Strategy, and Outreach Team; Policy and Advocacy Team; and the Editorial, Digital, and Production Team.
The intern would work with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist to develop multimedia content to spur staff engagement, amplify MSHers’ voices internally, and address evolving needs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
The selected candidate will receive broad exposure to the multimedia and internal communications needs of a global health non-profit working in dozens of locations around the world. The candidate will develop their abilities in synthesizing messages and stories to be relatable to audiences of different cultures and backgrounds. The candidate will also gain experience creating multimedia content in a professional environment with competing priorities and deadlines. Depending on the interests of the candidate, they will gain experience in producing high-quality multimedia content, with an emphasis on synthesizing long form media into short, digestible pieces (e.g., a highlight reel or sizzle reel). Finally, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from the perspective of an international organization with staff from many different cultures and backgrounds.
Responsibilities may include:
Development of internal written pieces (e.g., blogs, Q&As) featuring MSH staff sharing their stories and/or perspectives on DEI
Researching and writing evergreen pieces for the MSH internal newsletter
Developing internal pieces (written or video) that feature recent recipients of the MSH Field Scholarship Fund and their learning activity
Synthesizing long form media into short, digestible pieces (e.g., a highlight reel or sizzle reel)
Other writing or video production assignments, based on candidate’s interests
What are the student takeaways?
Gain an understanding of the production process in a global health non-profit
Improve and refine multimedia production skills, including but not limited to video production and writing stories
Gain experience synthesizing complex narratives and themes into short, digestible formats
Gain experience working with DEI themes in a global, multicultural setting
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate student in Media, Communications, or International Development Program
Experience using Microsoft applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Premiere
Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills

Internship candidates must be full-time or part-time students earning academic credit for their internship.
