Position Title: Nursing Program Curriculum Specialist
Reports to : Provost for Academic Affairs and Research
University of Global Health Equity – Haiti and the
Director of Nursing Education, Research and Professional Development
Location: Remote , US based with up to 40% travel
Employment : Full Time , 2years
Position Overview: The Nursing Program C urriculum S pecialist leads the development of capacity building curricula and tools primarily for nurses and other interdisciplinary team members . In addition, they will updat e and modify existing curricula and other capacity building tools for key Partners I n Health ( PIH ) initiatives and priorities at coordination and across clinical sites including but not limited to the Nurse Practitioner Residency/Fello wship . The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for creating detailed, engaging, rigorous nursing program and course curricula, high quality educational resources and student learning assessment instruments. They will liaise with subject matter experts, developing robust academic courses through the alignment of program and course objectives, student learning outcomes, assignments, and instructional materials. This position requires an understanding and application of adult learning theory. The curriculum specialist should exhibit passion about higher education, nursing, social justice, and health equity and aware of how digital technology has reshaped education. They will collaborate with PIH teams to align their curriculum , educational and training efforts with PIH’s strategic plan and priorities; and provide training-related technical assistance and guidance to other PIH teams and external partners as needed.
Responsibilities
Create and revise educational, and training curricula and other capacity building tools ( 70 % )
Create educational curricula and other capacity building tools for the Nurse Practitioner Residency/Fellowship , coordinatio n and cross site nursing programs. This involves assessing needs, defining objectives, writing, and editing content, tailoring content to the local context and incorporating site-specific protocols, conceptualizing content into the appropriate medium, and developing methods of assessment. Outputs include curriculum for specific programs, facilitator manuals, participant handbooks, slide presentations, flip charts, job aids, pre- and post-tests syllabi, teacher and student guides as well as resource packs , and other participatory materials.
Conducts online research and collaborates with educators, subject matter experts, policy makers and other professionals to develop quality curricula and learning resources.
Review and edit curricula and other tools created by consultants and external partners for PIH to ensure consistent quality, content, methodologies, approach, and style.
Ensure consistent developmental editing, copyediting, tagging, translation, and preparation of capacity building materials in collaboration with coordination and clinical cross site colleagues consultant editors, translators, and other vendors.
Disseminate PIH capacity building materials and approaches by collaborating with the PIH Communications team, other PIH teams, funding partners, and other organizations to make PIH capacity building materials available online.
Maintain a resource library of all coordination and clinical cross site educational curricula and training-related materials.
Establishes feasible timeframes to achieve the goals and objectives outlined in the curriculum.
Develops a range of digital resources to optimize classroom learning and ensure ongoing learning outside of formal settings.
Collects feedback from students, professors, and other stakeholders and integrates their feedback into the curriculum.
Monitors student progress and makes relevant changes to curricula.
Collaborates with other curriculum and course designers, graphic designers, and web designers to create new learning resources.
Develops tests, exams, and other formal and informal assessments to gauge student learning.
Lead and manage curriculum development/training and education projects (15% )
Lead and manage the education priorities for the Nurse Practitioner Residency/Fellowship, coordination site and clinical cross site nursing programs in collaboration with the site-based training and educational teams and other stakeholders.
Together with clinical teams, develop curricula, educational materials, teaching pedagogy, supervision and mentorship tools that will be used to train nursing students, Advanced practiced nurse practitioner residents and fellow residents, and their preceptors and mentors that capture the key skills and experiences required to carry out key clinical skills.
Represent PIH capacity building strategies, approaches, and projects internally and externally to stakeholders at various levels and collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders.
Collaborate with the PIH Development Team, Human Resources, current and potential funders of PIH training projects, the site-based team, and other grant partners to help shape project strategies, approaches, budgets, proposals, implementation, and evaluation of grant-funded projects.
Lead and Manage Capacity Building of Site-based Training Teams and Staff Conducting Training (15%)
Collaborate in the building of capacity and skills of site-based training teams and other site-based teams to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate continuing education a nd other capacity building initiatives. This includes developing processes, tools, and structures to effectively accompany clinical educators support training and educational implementation and monitor and evaluate classroom trainings and other capacity building efforts.
Develop and strategically use monitoring and evaluation systems and tools across sites in order to improve capacity building materials and site-based training and educational planning, delivery, and outcomes, in collaboration with site-based c urriculum , t raining and educational s pecialists and the c urriculum and t raining m anager, if applicable.
Collaborate with clinical educators at care delivery sites and educational institutions at PIH including UGHE, UGHE Haiti and the Center for Global Health in Peru
Expands the UGHE-Haiti network of curriculum designers, educators, and other professionals.
Deliver direct training to PIH staff and other groups when appropriate, for example training of trainers.
Support capacity and skills building of coordination site and clinical cross site colleagues in educational materials development, course implementation, and evaluation
Qualifications:
A master’s degree in education, health education, public health or a related fiel d ; PhD preferred .
At least 5 years of experience planning, implementing educational and training programs and projects.
At least 5 years of experience in higher education, curriculum development, instructional design (face to face and online) and editing professional-level educational materials for adults in international healthcare and resource-poor settings.
Must be fluent in French, Haitian Creole and English.
Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory, interactive skill building, and appropriate methodologies for culturally diverse communities and a variety of literacy levels.
Strong digital research skills.
Demonstrated possession of excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability managing complexity and prioritizing multiple tasks.
Ability to work productively in highly collaborative settings while also able to function independently.
Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, clients, and consultants.
Ability to travel to PIH sites as needed.
Commitment to social justice and health care issues.
Experience living and working in resource-poor settings, preferred.
