Background
In 2020, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the creation of a new division, Gender Equality, driven by our determined leadership and partnership to accelerate progress for women and girls globally. The past two years have seen an outstanding confluence of energy on this issue, and we have a greater understanding than ever before on the centrality of gender to all development outcomes embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals. Built to capitalize on the belief that we are at a pivotal point in history for gender equality, the division signals our intent to fully improve our voice and our co-chair’s dedication to accelerate impact.
Leadership & Culture
Our culture shapes our choices about what we do and how we do it. We believe that energized people, working well together, fueled by great leadership in an inclusive environment can do extraordinary things.
Team Summary
Data & Insights is a newly formed team in Gender Equality Division. It focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of women and girls living in low, and low-middle income environments. It is a cross-cutting decision support and analytics function through primary data collection, analysis, and modeling of sex-disaggregated data. For women’s health, the team focuses on data and modeling of burden and epidemiology to help guide portfolio prioritization, for diseases and health conditions that disproportionately affect women and girls. The team also collaborates across the Foundation to fill gaps in gender data and analytics beyond health. It aims to be the enabler and core data engine for women and girls, by having in-house expertise and funding capabilities in modeling, analytics, and innovations in data science to draw new insights.
